Lauren Shippy, daughter of Robert and Cheri Shippy, has been named Spring Lake High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for April.
Lauren Shippy, daughter of Robert and Cheri Shippy, has been named Spring Lake High School’s Rotary Student of the Month for April. She was honored by the Spring Lake Rotary at their April 19th meeting.  
 
Involvement in school, church and community is an integral part of Lauren’s life.  She is a leader, volunteer, scholar and athlete to name a few. 
 
Lauren was selected to attend the Bill Huizenga Youth Leadership Summit and was also selected to be a member of St. Mary’s Church’s Pastoral Council.  She is a very active member of the Rotary Interact Club, currently serving as President.  She attended the Life Leadership Conference last summer, helped plan the Community Tailgate which raised money $ for Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, and is currently doing the advertising and marketing for Interact’s upcoming Donkey Basketball game which will raise money for The Hope Project.
 
Volunteerism outside of the Rotary Interact Club is also important to Lauren.  She has participated in the Muskegon After School Reading Program, was an assistant for Shining Stars, ???.  and has traveled to Milwaukee to aid on a mission trip.
 
Lauren excels academically.  She currently carries a 3.95 gpa landing her honor roll status every trimester.  She has challenged herself with AP as well as Dual Enrollment courses.  Her gpa earned her membership in the National Honor Society.  Finally, she participates in the Business Professionals of America Club, recently placing at the state competition for Advanced Interview Skills.
 
In her spare time, Lauren tutors, teaches dance at Third Coast Dance, and nannies.
 
After graduation, Lauren plans to attend Aquinas College, where she will be a member of the Saints dance team.   Lauren plans on earning a degree in special education.
